Components of the Integrated Curriculum Model
Overarching Concepts:
This includes reading, reflections, and discussions that allow students to develop ideas, themes, and concepts and make connections between different fields of education.
Advanced Content:
Allows students the opportunity to experience more depth in the content area. In general education classrooms, often times students just scratch the surface of content knowledge. The advanced content provides experiences for students to use hone their skills and progress through the content faster allowing for more depth in their areas of interest.
Process-Product:
This component of the ICM model allows students to choose a topic of interest and do appropriate research. This is suitable for gifted learners. Through their research they can take part in PBL (problem based learning) and research their interests within the content to create more authentic learning experiences.
